#EUtweetup Berlin is BACK – Monday 26 September

EUtweetup-GORKI-sign

It’s been a while since the EU Twitter nerds in Berlin got together. But with a packed EU agenda for the autumn, and the controversies of Brexit very much not having subsided, it’s time for beer, blini, and good conversation. So come along to Gorki Park Café (Map, U8 Rosenthaler Platz) on Monday 26th September and meet Berlin’s EU Twitter nerds.

The format is the same as ever – no need to register, just come along. Check the hashtag #EUtweetup if you can’t find us, or want to check we’re still there if you’re coming later. You do not need to be a Twitter veteran to come along – anyone with an interest in how social media shapes EU communications is very welcome.

Extra #EUtweetup – Geneva, Tuesday 15th March, 1900

Screen Shot 2016-03-09 at 18.26.23We’re happy to announce – at slightly short notice – that we’re taking #EUtweetup to a new city: GENEVA. Jarle Hetland (@jarlehetland), Matthias Lüfkens (@luefkens) and I (@jonworth) will be meeting at 1700 at Saveurs & Couleurs, Rue des Grottes 24, 1201 Genève (map), from 1900, on Tuesday 15th March, and you would be very welcome to join us. If you could just let one of us know (by Twitter DM) that you’re going to come along that would be super, but there’s no need to sign up formally.

The idea remains the same as at Tweetups in Brussels – come and meet offline the people you have otherwise discussed politics with online. You’ll probably find out that the people are even more interesting in real life than they are on Twitter 🙂 Discussion at the Geneva tweetup will not only talk about EU politics online, but international politics too. If in doubt have a look at out “What is a tweetup?” page!

So see you Saveurs & Couleurs on Tuesday 15th!

#EUtweetup Brussels Tuesday 13th October, Café Place de Londres

placedelondresWe’re happy to announce the next EU Tweetup – Tuesday 13th October from 1800 until late at Café Place de Londres, on Place de Londres, Brussels. It’s pictured here to the right – it’s the café-restaurant on the right of the square if you’re walking from the EU institutions towards Ixelles.

We have the mezzanine level of the café reserved for the tweetup – that’s at the back of the place, and up half a level.

Café Place de Londres has three things going for it as a Tweetup venue: it has plenty of space, excellent beers from the Brussels Beer Project, and – if you want to – you can also eat there.

Also out tweetup falls in the middle of EU Open Days (#euopendays on Twitter) – all attendees at that are most welcome to come along to the tweetup!

The deal is the same as ever – no need to sign up. Just come along and meet the folks in real life you otherwise argue with on Twitter. We’ve been doing it for more than 3 years in Brussels, and people seem to enjoy meeting Twitter nerds, so why not come along if you’ve never been to a Tweetup yet?

#EUtweetup: 3rd September, Brussels (the welcome back, and pre-#SOTEU edition)

Summer’s done. The institutions are back working, and hence everyone else is back in Brussels as well. So that means it’s time for a beer and some gossip about EU politics at the latest #EUtweetup – from 1830 at Place de Londres, Brussels on Thursday 3rd September. Depending on the weather we’ll either be sat on the square, or inside the bar Stoemelings. If anything changes we’ll tweet it on the hashtag #EUtweetup.

As The Captain is not paying us a visit this time (we hope he’s off somewhere socking it to Orbán or something), you’ll find us by spotting members of the regualar EU Twitter crew – folks like Mark Johnston, Alice Stollmeyer, Nicholas Whyte and I (@jonworth) are normally there, and we bear a decent resemblance to our Twitter pictures!

The formula remains the same as ever – this is a very informal event. Come along, meet people you normally only argue with on Twitter, and discover they are actually good folks in real life too. You’ll actually find rather few of them with their heads in their mobiles throughout the evening. Anyone – Twitter newbie or old hand – is welcome. One of the topics for debate will be #SOTEU / #JunckerBullshitBingo 🙂

We look forward to seeing you on Thursday!

23rd April, Brussels, from 1700

The next Brussels EU tweetup will be on Thursday 23rd April, from 1700, at Wild Geese (Metro: Maalbeek, map).

We will have a special guest – Jason L Knoll (@jasonlknoll) in attendance from 1700 until 1800, and then the normal EU Tweetup thereafter.

We heard there’s another media event going on that night in Brussels as well, but (1) we had the date first, and (2) do you really want to be in the same place as Juncker’s Chef du Cabinet?

So head along to Wild Geese on 23rd, and follow or tweet #EUtweetup if you need more information!
