Christmas #EUtweetup Spectacular, Brussels, Wednesday 16 December, Golden Stone

‘Twas 9 days before Christmas, when all through the bubble EU tweeps were all stirring and ready for trouble!

The hashtag was ready and promoted with care,In hopes that the next soon would be there…

Quick, before sleigh rides out of Brussels for their Christmas festivities, let’s meet for the final of 2015 in Brussels!

We’ll be at the Golden Stones, on Place de Londres, Brussels, on Wednesday, 16 December from 1800 (until late…) to look back at a year filled with poignant hashtags ranging from , and to , and .

See you there! And don’t forget to bring your friends, colleagues and plenty of Christmas cheer! If you have any questions please tweet and follow the hashtag for updates. See you on Wednesday!

#EUtweetup Brussels, Wednesday 18th November, Stoemelings

Well, time flies – another month gone by…

It’s time for an #EUtweetup in Brussels!  We’ll meet this Wednesday, 18th November from 1800 (until late…) at Stoemelings, on Place de Londres, Brussels.

And yes, we are back at our old location as the other cafe across the square had  already been booked for another event.

See you there! And do feel free to bring along friends and colleagues! An #EUtweetup is not some kind of ‘exclusive club-like’ event, we want tweetups to be as open as possible, everyone is welcome (OK, you should have at least heard of twitter! 😉

If you have any questions please tweet us @EUtweetup.

See you on Wednesday!

#EUtweetup Brussels Tuesday 13th October, Café Place de Londres

placedelondresWe’re happy to announce the next EU Tweetup – Tuesday 13th October from 1800 until late at Café Place de Londres, on Place de Londres, Brussels. It’s pictured here to the right – it’s the café-restaurant on the right of the square if you’re walking from the EU institutions towards Ixelles.

We have the mezzanine level of the café reserved for the tweetup – that’s at the back of the place, and up half a level.

Café Place de Londres has three things going for it as a Tweetup venue: it has plenty of space, excellent beers from the Brussels Beer Project, and – if you want to – you can also eat there.

Also out tweetup falls in the middle of EU Open Days (#euopendays on Twitter) – all attendees at that are most welcome to come along to the tweetup!

The deal is the same as ever – no need to sign up. Just come along and meet the folks in real life you otherwise argue with on Twitter. We’ve been doing it for more than 3 years in Brussels, and people seem to enjoy meeting Twitter nerds, so why not come along if you’ve never been to a Tweetup yet?

#EUtweetup: 3rd September, Brussels (the welcome back, and pre-#SOTEU edition)

Summer’s done. The institutions are back working, and hence everyone else is back in Brussels as well. So that means it’s time for a beer and some gossip about EU politics at the latest #EUtweetup – from 1830 at Place de Londres, Brussels on Thursday 3rd September. Depending on the weather we’ll either be sat on the square, or inside the bar Stoemelings. If anything changes we’ll tweet it on the hashtag #EUtweetup.

As The Captain is not paying us a visit this time (we hope he’s off somewhere socking it to Orbán or something), you’ll find us by spotting members of the regualar EU Twitter crew – folks like Mark Johnston, Alice Stollmeyer, Nicholas Whyte and I (@jonworth) are normally there, and we bear a decent resemblance to our Twitter pictures!

The formula remains the same as ever – this is a very informal event. Come along, meet people you normally only argue with on Twitter, and discover they are actually good folks in real life too. You’ll actually find rather few of them with their heads in their mobiles throughout the evening. Anyone – Twitter newbie or old hand – is welcome. One of the topics for debate will be #SOTEU / #JunckerBullshitBingo 🙂

We look forward to seeing you on Thursday!

#EUtweetup: 6 August in Brussels

So, it’s the first week of August and you are still in Brussels. (Why are you still here?)

Just look around you: your office is silent, the kitchen is empty, there are clean cups in the cupboard. You just discovered that the office printer goes into a mysterious ‘sleeping mode’ after 1 hour of inactivity. A clock is ticking. You start thinking about another Brussels heatwave. No aircon. The phone stopped interrupting you weeks ago. You don’t get much done. Your inbox has turned into a collection of unoriginal ‘out of office replies’. Nothing seems to happen on twitter. And it’s only Monday…

So, we are pretty sure you are desperately looking for something to do. Look no further! Join us for a special holiday #EUtweetup on Thursday (06 Aug) at 18.30 at “The Wild Geese” on Avenue Livingstone (Metro: Maalbeek, map).

We also have a special guest/co-organiser: Millicent Scott – semi-finalist of the legendary EU Twitter Fight Club – is in town! So come along, meet some new people, have a drink and enjoy yourself!

#EUtweetup: 16 July in Brussels

Quick announcement: Next #EUtweetup will be on Thursday 16th July, from 1830 (till late), at Stoemelings, Place de Londres, Brussels. (map).  If you are reading this consider yourself invited – if you want to know more about “EU tweetups” make sure to read our recent blog posts here and here.

This is also an opportunity to say goodbye to #eutweetup regular @SophiaBengtsson who is leaving the Brussels bubble:

#EUtweetup: 15 June in Brussels

It’s summer in Brussels – so we thought it’s time for another #EUtweetup! We will meet on Monday 15th June, from 1830 (till late), at Stoemelings, Place de Londres, Brussels. (map)

Everything you need to know:

Who is invited? Well, it’s simple: if you are reading this you are invited! ‘EU Tweetups’ are supposed to be relaxed friendly gatherings (usually in a pub) of people who tweet about EU issues. The idea is to get to know the people behind the twitter accounts. (But you can also join us if you are not on twitter – but be prepared to at least give it a try)

Where exactly? If you can’t find us – tweet us @eutweetup or look for the hashtag #eutweetup

Inside or outside? If the weather is nice we will probably be outside.

Do I need to sign up somewhere? No, just come along (but don’t forget to tweet about it!)

Why next Monday? Do we need a reason for everything?

How can I help? It’s a tweetup, so tweet about it and bring along some tweeps.

Can’t make it this time?  Make sure to follow @eutweetup or subscribe to our brand new newsletter for all EU tweetup related announcements.

23rd April, Brussels, from 1700

The next Brussels EU tweetup will be on Thursday 23rd April, from 1700, at Wild Geese (Metro: Maalbeek, map).

We will have a special guest – Jason L Knoll (@jasonlknoll) in attendance from 1700 until 1800, and then the normal EU Tweetup thereafter.

We heard there’s another media event going on that night in Brussels as well, but (1) we had the date first, and (2) do you really want to be in the same place as Juncker’s Chef du Cabinet?

So head along to Wild Geese on 23rd, and follow or tweet #EUtweetup if you need more information!
